How to Mine • Mining Areas • Mining Ships |
Introduction
Hallo and welcome to this guide about professional mining in Freelancer Discovery. This guide will explaine you how you mine, about what you have to take care about and how to mine best. Many systems in Sirius are holding ores. Ores are special version of matels or gas that cannot be bought on stations (except some player owned bases) and need to be mined by players. Ore is the most expensive commodities in Sirius (sellprices around 10.000 SC per unit) so many traders search for ore miners. These miner have ships with small cargo space normally, so they cannot trade effectivly. Because of that mining players offers ore mining for trader for a price between 2000 & 3000 SC normally.
Miners should keep the following in mind, when creating a new miner char;
- You will need a specialized mining ship to harvest ores. More on this in a moment.
- Mining requires mining turrets in addition to a mining ship.
- Finally, you require a mining company ID (for example, BMM) with a matching IFF, or alternatively, an independent “Miner ID’, available for sale on most stations.
- Ore is automatically transferred into your cargo bay. You don’t have to tractor in ore as per vanilla / other previous mods.
- If you hafe marked another player by a left click, who is not more than 500 m away from you, the mined ore will be automaticly transfered to the cargo hold form that player. If you do not want that you just need to click on anyother target (for example a Jump Gate or a Trade Lane) or take more distance to that player.
- Only mining turrets are effective for mining. Other weapons are practically useless for mining operations.
- For most miner ships (especially Hegemon & Surveyor) you should fly in cookpit view (strg+v whit default key bindings) and fire forward while you turning your ship around. Only a few miners should use the turret view. This are mostly miners that have no (many) mining turret that are able to fire forward (especially the Arrastra).
The Ship
Most ship in Freelancer are (para-)military ships. These ships are logical very bad for mining operations; you should not mine with a Rheinland Battleship for example. Also; not all miner ships are usefull yor each ore. The following should help you:
Warning!: In some zones is a very high radiaion damage like in Omega-11. For this system you should use big Miners only; also Hegemon for example. See Mining Zone down this page for more information.
IFF & ID
The ID % ID are very important for your miner. Each ID gives a multiplicator for each ore holding rock (if IFF, Ore & ship is matching). For example: BMM gains a bonus of 4 for Gold Ore, while Mollies gains a bonus of 2. So BMMis better, but when you was mined by a Molly they will not attack you and you will not be hunted while mining. The IDs of offical factions (f. e. OSI, IRG) get a higher bonus than the normal one. The number of the bonuses in the following table is sorted by the ore position. First ore, first bonus; second ore, second bonus....
Sellpoints
Ore can even make more credits than dealing with drugs or other illegal trading goods. The highest sellpoint of Ore is around $10k normally from one house to another. Each house also offers an unlawfull sellpoint. That is lower than the lawfull (except the unlawfull is the government f. e. (Crete)) but pirating player that shot a player trading with ore will get around 50% when selling the ore. Under the following list there will be some ore trade routs you may use. Never forgett that miners do not work for free; they take around 2k for each unit.
Note: This list will just show the three best sell-places + some unlawfull. The side 'ore' is (or is going to) showing the best sell price in a house. You can also look at the page of the single ore or ask miners; they normally know the price of their goods very well.
* If there are two our more mining zones, the most common is showed. ** At least one house counts this ore as contraband or registered good. *** This ore is mainly traded by unlawful; so the unlawful sellpoints may be lawful.
Trading Routes
- Rheinland <-> Bretonia
- Gold Ore, Battleship Essex (next base to mining zone), Bretonia -> Rheinbier, Planet New Berlin, Rheinland -> Aluminium Ore, Neu Augsburg Outpost (next base to mining Zone), Rheinland -> H-Fuel Southampton Shipyard, Bretonia -> Back to start
Mining Zones
Ore can just be mined in small par of an field/cloud that is marked as minable zone on the map. In the centre you will find a buoy named "Mining Zone" normally. Only there ore will be droped when you fire on the flying rocks.
