Unsatisfied with the refire capabilities of conventional Solaris turrets, and under pressure from capital ship fleets to upgrade the weapon, weapons designers across Sirius constructed a Solaris turret that is capable of twice the refire rate of previous designs for battleships and cruisers. The enhanced refire does come with a penalty, however. The damage to hull and shields inflicted by the upgraded weapon is approximately half that of its older counterpart. With highly expert gunners in short supply due to attrition in the various wars being waged across Sirius, the ability to fire faster is prized more highly by some commmanders than the ability to hit the target with each shot. Experienced crews scoff at the innovation as a sign of declining standards, but some embrace it as a more effective means of dealing with hostile fighter swarms.
