G2 LS92-1 "Lacerator" EMP Cannon
As gunboats gained agility and gunboat class shield technology improved, bomber pilots were having difficulty suppressing gunboat shields. To knock out the damaged shields of gunboats and possibly larger capital ships the Lacerator cannons were produced. The Lacerator enabled bombers to knock out shields without depleting their powerplant with a Supernova salvo.
The basis of the weapon's design was similar to the Debiliator line of pulse weapons, but deliver significantly more shield damage per shot. Since it fires a pulse projectile, any unshielded hits also temporarily weakens the target's powerplant. The drawback was that the weapon was very demanding on the bomber's energy core. So much so, that it was impractical to use on fighter craft.
When the first few models of the Lacerator were deployed in the battlefield, factions who encountered them recognised the effectiveness of the gun and quickly reverse engineered their own copies. Today they have been widely adopted and used by all bomber deploying groups.
