Nanotubes are measured on a nanometer scale of billionths of a meter, and may be constructed from carbon, inorganic metals, and nucleaic acids. Their function is to provide a contained cylindrical path for the movement of nanoscopic particles. Nanotechnology applications include biomedicine, electronics, energy management, textiles, and nanoelectromechanical systems.
