Brothers and Sisters, I would like address 2 points regarding the topic at hand.
1. With the many complaints from Hunters and Corsairs alike, about the opposition hiding at our freeports, I would suggest we start asking a fee from any non-zoner who wants to you use this service we give them. Thus it will stop them from abusing it!
Especially at key ports like Freeport 9, where the other factions are constantly abusing the safety of our ports. It is something that can easily be enforced if we had a patrol(I will get to that in point 2).
They will have an option to dock or leave, or pay our fee to 'park' around.
Not only will this stop the abuse to some extent, but it will give the Zoners' economy the boost it really needs.
Yes I know what some might think, "Is this not some sort of piracy?" "Will this not upset some of our neighbors?"
No this is not piracy, we are not taking something for nothing. We are offering a service, and I do not see why we should offer it for free.
And yes some might not approve of this, and this also brings me to my second point...
2. I want to address a very sensitive issue here. Our morals and existence if you will...
We are Zoners because we live for freedom and without laws. We come and go as we please, we have no ranks and no bosses.
Yet... we constantly have issues with upholding our ways. A zoner gets attacked, and we start moaning about what to do about it without pressing anyone's buttons.
The point I am getting at here brothers and sisters, and this is going to be a dagger in the heart to most of you.... Without some ORDER there can and will only be CHAOS. And to keep SOME order, we are going to need SOME laws...
And SOME folks will always have an issue with a law, no matter what it is.
...Maybe 'laws' are too strong a word here, 'rules' would be more suited.
In my short time with the Zoners, I have constantly seen our people too afraid to ACT, because they fear to break some neutral ground. We are so obsessed to treat OTHERS equally, we would almost sacrifice our people and our HONOR to do so.
All we do is complain about things and end up not doing much about them because of this fear. But it is impossible for EVERYONE to like us!
We NEED to setup some rules to keep OUR people safe and to protect OUR freedom! And these rules ARE going to upset some outsiders. That is just how life and this universe works.
The Fee for the Freeports are the first of these 'rules'.
A second one that i want to bring up, is that we form some sort of military force among our people, WILLING people. Even if it they are only used to patrol our Holes, Freeports and the main routes taken through our systems. This will keep those scum inline who think they can laugh at us because we can't even keep order in our own systems. Just so, we can use this 'military' to escort our traders on these routes, as long as these routes fall in our systems.
And what if Bretonia suddenly decides to barge into Omega 49 with their full military force so they can take it from under us? These are things we need to prepare for! With a zoner here and one there, we won't be able to defend ourselves without some sort of structure.
And thirdly, we should not support slavers in anyway! They want to drop off slaves at our ports, then they ask for trouble. We need not stop them to do their business, but they should not get us involved in their matters. We are free people, we should not support anyone who takes it from others.
We can not be non-caring drones who turns a blind eye to everything! We still have our morals and we have every right to defend and support it!
The time for fearing to step on toes are over brothers and sisters, sooner or later we are going to have to bring some Order to protect our people and our freedom. And sooner or later, someone will want our blood because of it, and we should be able to stand strong when that time comes...
