I think dispanding the council would be a great waste. Even though I am one of it's newest members, I have seen the good the council can do. Just because things seem to be slow now does not mean that a later date the Council will be needed. We may have turbulent times ahead where comming together may be necessary. Beside this Council at least lets us organize our efforts to make sure our station and people are safe, supplied and happy.

Sincerely

[font=Palatino Linotype]On behalf of the Zoners Trading Consortium I would like to declare our full support to the Council and I would like to assure that we definitelly need a body for exchange of information and experience among the Zoners Community. I think, it's not the numbers which decide about the "living" of the community, but the quality of our activities. And as I see (mainly on Freeport 9), there is much life going on around the station, I greet many Zoner pilots passing every day, and we very intensively strive for supporting relations with the other factions. We feel much safer having the support of the other noble Zoners factions.

Best regards,
dr Werner Mazursky

Greetings Zoners,

Please forgive our recent silence on this issue. Unfortunately, the message regarding the upcoming chair elections was transmitted right as we were departing from Omicron Delta for a deep-space expedition (which went quite well), and we just discovered it now. Since we are relatively new to the Council and thus not highly familiar with its members, we will withhold our vote for any specific candidate in favor of expressing our overall support for the continued existence of the Council as a means of facilitating communication between Zoners.
Additionally, we offer our support and our Juggernaut to the Council as a resource to be called upon in case of any emergencies, and to guard any base that needs protection. We typically base our operations around Omicron Delta, but we can (with some effort) move our ship to surrounding systems as well. Our ship transmits a Zoner Guard signal, and we plan on purchasing the Zoner Guard ID as soon as it is available.

Thank you. Long live the Zoners, long live the Council, and long live freedom.

Subject: Council Chair,

Greetings great Council, delegates and all other Zoners

I,Jonathan Archer volunteer myself for the free chair within the council.
as gaurd of freeport 1 I have decent diplomatic skills, and my family supports me in this matter,

now I have dealed many things around freeport 1, I even helped Freeport 11 a few weeks ago regarding some loosebanded corsairs,
I hope you accept my aplication for this chair,

J.Archer Out.
Greetings fellow delegates and Council members. Though the nomination was flattering, I was hesitant to respond, as the Furball noticed. That name makes me chuckle.. The reason for this was that I wanted to let others volunteer for this position first. While I would be willing to take the chair, I'm a busy enough person as it is, so if there is someone competent and willing enough to take it in my place, that would be best for this council. I'd like to be the fallback, rather than the first choice in this situation. I'd prefer if we picked a new chairman or chairwoman, whatever the case may be, who was comfortable with their new responsibility, and able to devote the time necessary to it.

Unfortunately, experience is a major problem in this situation, and we need a leader who has the experience, or access to those with experience, regarding those who we have common contact, as well as problems, with. These mainly being the Corsairs and Bounty Hunters. Furthermore we have the recent turbulent relations our neighbors in the Coalition. If Mr. Archer were to be elected to the chair, I will be offering to aid him whenever he needs it in terms of advise and suggestions. I hope the rest of the members here do the same.

Another possible problem confronting the new chair is the increasing levels of hostility towards us from other groups. Corsairs and Coalition for example. We need to be able to start protecting ourselves and our interests, being Freeports and other assorted stations, from these people and able to make sure our regulations are enforced at these locations. Resolving this problem isn't possible solely by the chairmen, nor diplomacy. We will need to start making it clear that we are capable of protecting ourselves and our stations from people, else these problems will only fester until they blow up in our face.

In conclusion, more and action is needed on their part of the members of this council in our affairs. We have been too complacent and docile for too long, and it has come back to bite us. This council needs to get its act in gear and do whats needed, not sit and blabber on about it like we have. Thank you for those who listened to this message.

Sincerely, Aurelia Silvan.

Message reads:

I have some concerns with recent issues. While I am fully in support of guarding our station and stopping rampant and unwarented attacks on our property and persons, I still fail to see any logic in inviting attack by goading our potential enemies. The most recent incident involving Freeport 9 is deplorable, but was handled with excellent diplomacy by Werner Mazursky. He made a request, that while was not recieved in the best manner. It was recived.

Certain other comments were, I feel, flagrant stabs at the Corsairs. Do we really want them as full fledged enemies. We moved out to the outer reaches to live our own lives and do our own thing. These areas came with certain neighbors. While some of their actions are extreamly questionable and at time down right blood thirsty, they are still our neighbors. We have to coexist with them or be forced to defend ourselves at every turn. Our stations will be layed to wast in Omicron Theta, Delta and Omega-41. Freport 11 would be the first to go. Even if they do not attack us can you imagine how hard it will be to supply these out lying staions with roving packs of Corsairs attempting to kill us all and guarding the only route to these stations.

Admittedly I have a stake in all this. Operating out of Freeport 11 and 9 exclusivly, this realy hits home with me and my company. We strive to make sure these stations are well supplied and the quality of life is sustained. To do so I engaged in diplomatic talks with both the Order and the Corsairs. So far everything has worked out wonderfully. My boys make food runs to Crete and we are greeted well in Omicron Gamma. I am also glad to say that outside Gamma we are left well alone. There have been two incidents where independant Corsairs have taxed us, but the monentary losses were negligable compared to loosing an entire transport.

If the Council decides that we need to take a harder line with these indivuals, then by all means lets do so, but inciting an entire races against us is pure folly.

As a trader and company owner I understand the risk me and my piots take by not running with escorts. At this time there are only three of us and to buy the ships and pay the escort pilots is beyond our means. Hiring a merc, a hunter or freelancer would just insight issues when moving through Corsair space.

To counter the fact that we do not travel with escorts, I used diplomacy. So far i have been very happy with the results. If I, by myself ,can come to a workable arrangeent with these folks, I do not see why, we as a whole can not do the same.

Thank you for your time

Delegates, I have not seen this much primate good sense and Pineal agility since I was hatched in the Dublin gold fields by Eris Herself.

I commend your willingness to contribute to the "pot".

We have so far,

Jonathan Archer,
Aurelia Silvan,

as nominees for the position of Chair.

By ex-offficio fiat, I would like to add both our newest Delegates, Dr. Mazursky and Samuel Nichols, to the list.

Of course, they are free to accept or decline the nomination, but they are two erudite and wiley homosaps, if you ask ol' Dis.

Besides, Aurelia and I need time to shop, don't we dear?

Couldn't agree more sir, and therefore you have my vote for Chair of the Council.

Hello fellow zoners,

I am glad to see that we have more activity regarding this matter. Now the question is, is this the final list of nominees and can we start placing our wotes?

Comm ID: Mama Dis.

I do believe the question can be called, Delegates and fellow Zoners.

I have also had a rather surprising message from a certain old, cantankerous, and notorious fellow. The message is as follows:

"Bugger 'conflicts of interest'! I already have a big red target painted on my arse by the Goddess Herself.. I may as well put it to use. I'm in."

Therefore, nominations for Chairperson, CoZ, are closed. Please vote for one of the following:

Capt. Jonathan Archer (3)
Sister Aurelia Silvan (1)
Dr. Werner Mazursky (1)
Samuel Nichols (2)
Malaclypse 666 (0)

Brother Furball, your vote has been noted. Let the balloting begin.
